The Pelican Club
Nestled on 55 St Mary's Place in Nottingham, The Pelican Club is the kind of place that seems straight out of a Fellini film - low lighting, live music floating through the air, and cocktails that seem to have been shaken by someone who knows both jazz and alchemy. The ambiance alone draws you in, but it’s the rich, unpretentious Italian-inspired menu and wine list that truly make it one of the city’s hidden gems.
The minute you step inside, the vibe is cozy yet confident - a classy blend of rustic European charm and underground speakeasy energy. It's not massive or flashy, but that’s exactly what makes it special. Ideal for solo diners, romantic dinners, or catching up with a friend over a strong Espresso Martini, The Pelican Club is more about the experience than extravagance. And speaking of accessibility, while there's a wheelchair-accessible toilet, those arriving with mobility needs should note that the venue doesn't have a fully accessible entrance or car park - something to keep in mind when planning a visit.
Now, let’s talk drinks - because this place knows its way around a bar. The Lemon Cheesecake Cocktail is a fan favorite, especially for those with a sweet tooth and a soft spot for creative mixology. On the stronger side of things, the Baileys Cheesecake pairs wonderfully with a late-evening espresso or the velvet-smooth Espresso Martini, which has just the right bitterness to counterbalance the rich desserts on offer. Their Margarita also hits that refreshing citrus note without being overly tart - a good pick if you’re planning to order heavier plates.
The wine list here isn’t just long for the sake of it. It’s curated, deliberate, and varied - from bold reds to light-bodied whites, every bottle seems chosen to complement something on the menu. And if you’re into craft cocktails or spirits, The Pelican Club has that covered too, with a happy-hour drinks selection that’s worth timing your visit around.
Food-wise, the Charcuterie board is a go-to starter for many - think aged meats, soft cheeses, and pickled bites arranged like edible artwork. The Pappardelle is wonderfully silky, tossed in sauces that taste like someone’s Italian nonna has whispered secrets into the pot. If you're leaning vegetarian, don’t miss the Eggplant Stuffed with Vegetables or the vibrant Ratatouille. Both dishes are full of color, texture, and depth - comfort food with a refined twist.
For meat lovers, the Duck Breast and Pork Medallions with Mushrooms are rich, satisfying, and plated with finesse. The steak is another staple - cooked with an expert sear, seasoned just right, and served in generous portions that somehow never feel overwhelming. There’s also Cannelloni, Spaghetti Al Pesto, and seasonal specials that rotate depending on what’s fresh and local.
And yes, dessert deserves its own spotlight here. Whether you go for the creamy Baileys Cheesecake or something fruitier like the Sweet Tea-infused treats, the kitchen clearly doesn't treat the last course as an afterthought. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over your final bite while a live saxophone player performs in the background - no rush, no pressure.
The service is attentive but not intrusive. Staff members know the menu inside-out and will gladly recommend wine pairings or adjust your dish to suit dietary preferences. You won’t find takeaway or delivery here - The Pelican Club is all about dine-in, sit-down, take-your-time hospitality. That makes it perfect for slow lunches, moody dinners, or those late-night bites that turn into long conversations.
From an editorial standpoint, what sets this place apart isn’t just its food and drink, but its atmosphere - a warm escape in the heart of Nottingham where live music, good wine, and thoughtful cooking come together effortlessly. Whether you're looking to unwind with a cocktail, explore an expertly crafted small plate, or simply sip a cappuccino while jazz echoes off brick walls, The Pelican Club captures something few venues manage: authenticity without pretense.

Lovely food; we had 3 antipasti dishes and a salad to share- delicious. Lovely vibe, clean and cosy environment. The staff were friendly and very accommodating. We will be visiting again on future date nights:)
Amazing staff and vibe. Live music was unreal. All the food was super good too - only complaint would be wanting slightly bigger portions. So fire in general tho!
The food and drink was amazing. Probably the best place in Nottingham to try Pasta. The seating area gave a more pub like ambience than an relaxing dining/Jazz restaurant. The music was good, but I wish I could have heard it in a more relaxing environment. We reserved the table for 2 hours as it can get busy over the weekend. The seats given to us was probably not the best as it had more traffic but the we enjoyed the food.
We came to the Pelican Club for food on a Tuesday night for our anniversary and we were absolutely blown away. We ordered the aubergine parmigiana starter to share and I very much regretted agreeing to part with half of it because it was one of the best starters I’ve ever had! The sauce was so deeply rich and flavourful. My boyfriend eats a lot of meat and never would’ve ordered this normally but agreed it was 10/10. The mains were generous sizes and equally as tasty. For dessert, we had the Tiramisu - easily the best one I’ve tried. So gorgeous and well balanced. The wine was also beautiful and the live band created an amazing atmosphere. The Pelican Club is such a gem and really makes me proud to live in Nottingham where places like this exist. I’d recommend this place to anyone and I can’t wait to come back!
Went there for Ruby's Tuesday, with live music and singing. Absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere, the service were top-notch! Will definitely come again
